When Edgewood Church’s leadership team was asked for guidance and support for transgender youth in our community, they said yes. Originally the focus was on the youth themselves, but what became clear in our outreach was that a support group for the parents/grandparents/caregivers of trans-youth was as important, if not more important, as a support group for youth.

We have hired a counselor to lead a support group for caregivers. The counselor is a cis-gendered LiCSW, who is a trainer and workshop presenter for transgender health issues. The adult group meets once a month on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM in the church’s conference room (accessed through the Arnold St. north entrance).

A counselor for transgender youth ages 12-16 has been engaged. We are reaching out to interested youth. When we have at least five youth interested in participating, the group will meet once a month, probably when the adult group meets.
